Lok Sanjh has been promoting the agenda of sustainable development since its inception. The mission of sustainable development is pursued through;
-
The creation and strengthening of local institutions to inculcate the democratic values at grass roots level,
-
Involving communities in the decision making processes through decentralized and bottom up planning with the active participation of marginalized particularly the small farmers and women and
-
Enhancing the capacity of rural communities to plan, implement, manage and pursue their development needs efficiently and effectively.
Under these guiding principles imbedded in the organizational mission all its programmes are directed to supplement the sustainable development through their activities and functions in the field. The plans and functions of all its mobilization efforts and development initiatives aim at strengthening livelihood capacities and ensuring food security of the partner communities in general and marginalized and poor in particular.
Accordingly, all programs have been envisaged to consistently follow these issues at the grass root level with the collaboration of partner communities. The focus remained on sustainable and equitable use of natural resources, livelihood and food security issues, and revival of organic agriculture based on local resources, indigenous knowledge, skills and practices. Considering the institutional strength Lok Sanjh has gained over the years on sustainable development the objectives of the projects seems quite inline with the Lok Sanjh's over all goals.
Moreover, Lok Sanjh gets active support, both technical and financial, from the SANFEC. The SANFEC is the network of South Asian NGOs which have demonstrated over time the capability of development and dissemination of organic farming technologies in the range of agro-ecologies. For instance, SANFEC members in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka bring experiences of shifting rice-farming systems to organic farming. The Indian partners have extensive experience in dry land agriculture.
